Message	I think the illusion may be to the larger rear inset distance. When viewed from the rear quarter view, the faces of those wheels get hidden more by the deeper lip and may appear a bit smaller. Based on your photo and his photo, I think the "illusion" is dependent on the wheel design, lip design (inset faces vs dished/concave spoke), and view angle. I will say that I do enjoy a 17/18 front rear stagger :)
